Everything but the kitchen sink.

ca. August 2009

This is our kitchen as it was when we first moved in.  With its gold speckled floors and counter tops as well as quality appliances from the 60's, it was definitely the first room on our list to be remodeled.  Rather than replacing everything, we opted for a kitchen facelift.

This old school oven was definitely not safe to touch when on.

The kitchen even had a clock built into the wall.. stylish.

Bye bye paneling!

The plan: rearrange some cabinets to fit a range, OTR microwave, and a dishwasher - I refuse to live without one! Oh, and apparently drink some beer ;)

We had to call in our reinforcements.. Dad. He's done this many more times than we have.

Rather than ripping out the gold speckled floor, we opted to cover it up.  Quarter inch luan plywood and a prettier, not gold speckled floor on top.

So in the end, we rearranged some cabinets and sanded and painted them.  We replaced the cabinet hardware, the appliances, the counter tops, the kitchen faucet and the floor.

Now our kitchen face-lift is complete :)

Termites go "nom nom"

They're every homeowner's worst nightmare.. termites.  We were lucky enough to have them eat through a rafter in the basement that was holding up part of our floor.  Fourtunately, it only took a few hours to fix all of the damage.. here's what we ripped out of the ceiling!
